While it may feel like Spring slipped in the back door instead of making a grand entrance, it’s finally here. For Matrix Design Group, we take this as an opportunity to get the studio into shape. Clearing the clutter clears our minds to create.
It’s not an easy job. Sweeping and dusting a studio where metal and wood shavings practically permeate the air we breathe is like shoveling snow during a blizzard—hard to justify it at all. But we do it anyway because inevitably, it brings that sense of renewal we’re all looking for this time of year.
A lot of our clients get that same sense of satisfaction working in the garden. Clearing the leaves and pine needles from winter, clipping dead foliage so plants can thrive again, and watching as those first daffodils and tulips start to come up all bring a feeling of great things to come.
We like to grow things too. Only the things we’re nurturing aren’t purely botanical, though inspired by Asheville’s natural beauty and wildlife. In fact, just like in nature, no two of our garden sculptures are ever alike. We take scrap metal and unique hardware we find, salvage, and collect from all over and get inspired by the shapes to create things from the natural world— daffodils, dragonflies, owls, mantises, roses, and more.
Lucy, who does most of the welding around here and is also a talented ceramic artist, helps me create petals for our rose metal sculptures, which were recently chosen to be on “The Bachelor Winter Games” national TV show grand finale. Check us out at the 1:30 mark in the preview:
You can find some of these sculptures, including the Bachelor roses, at the Garage on 25. We also make custom pieces for any space—indoor or out.
